Shenwei from Reading (AS)(I)AN (AM)ERICA has made a challenge for May, to support Asian writers and their books. You can find the masterpost here, and the bingo sheet is below.
I left this so late because I forgot what bingo was and I was like!!! how can anyone read 25 books in one month!!!!!! But then I realised.
I probably won’t finish before the 31st, I have a couple of books to read before the #yamatters conference at the State Library, BUT here’s what I’m planning on reading.
The Astrologer’s Daughter by Rebecca Lim
I have been wanting to read this since Wendy Chen (also one of the hosts for the challenge!!!) tweeted about it when it came out. The main character’s mum can predict the future and now she is missing. It looks pretty spooky and mysterious AND is #loveozya so I’m really looking forward to it.
Not Your Sidekick by CB Lee
Superheroes!!! Queers!!! An awesome cover! This is another book I’ve been meaning to read for a while. The main character Jess starts an internship with a VILLAIN and just. It sounds so great.
The Other Shore by Hoa Pham
Kim can speak to the dead. And of course, everyone wants to use her talents for themselves. I have read another one of Hoa’s books, Wave, which was beautiful, so I’m looking forward to this one as well. The Other Shore was also a winner of Seizure mag’s Viva La Novella prize in 2014.
Same Difference by Daniel Kirk Kim
The blurb on goodreads doesn’t say much, but it looks like it’s about friendship and relationships and coming of age. I decided on this one mostly because the cover is really beautiful, tbh!
The Land of Forgotten Girls by Erin Entrada Kelly
This is about two sisters who have been basically abandoned by their father and now live with their stepmother. The main character, Soledad, makes stories and they are her escape. This one looks pretty cute (and super sad) and I need to read more stories about siblings!
Which line are you going to be reading? I read the first two books, and I can safely say, Not Your Sidekick is adorable and so cute, but still totally not just for middle-grade readers 😀 !
(By the way, I am trying to read 25 books in one month. I’m at number 14 at the moment.)
I’m doing the first column! Also: OMG WHAT I’m so impressed?????
Thanks! I’m really enjoying it!
